Before the arrival of Islam, the Arabs had a terrible picture. They had a gloomy political organization. There was only one authority of chiefs. There were no laws at all. Kings fought for thrones. However, this time was called the time of ignorance. 

Women and slaves had no rights. They were traded in the market like animals. They were beaten all the time by their masters. Men were free from all restrictions, they were allowed to do as much marriages they want. They people worshiped idols. Somehow, they forget the teachings of their forefathers; Hazrat Ismail and his father, Hazrat Ibrahim.

At this time, their were three main centers of trading, Makkah, Madina and Damascus. The most important city was Makkah; crowds of people came their to trade all over from Arabia as well as many other parts of the world. Madina also had importance because it was located on the fertile area of Arabia. Damascus was also very profitable for trading. It is known as the oldest city in the world. Jews were also present in Arabia. They were the leaders of Arabia. The slavery was the economic institution of Arabia.
